Before getting into our FAQs, let’s back up a second.

  1. I am brand new to cloth diapering.  Where can I make sense of all the cloth diaper styles and lingo?

  2. I am still trying to decide between disposables, gDiapers, home-laundering and your service.  What information can you provide to help me choose?

•Do you have any How-To Videos?

Okay, on to Diaperkind FAQs.

What areas do you serve?

  1. Manhattan:  all neighborhoods

  2. Brooklyn:  all neighborhoods

  3. Queens:  all neighborhoods between the East River and Grand Central; north of Metropolitan Ave.

  4. Bronx:  Riverdale

  5. For service in the surrounding Tri-State Region, we highly recommend Innovative Diaper Service.

How does the Service work?

  1. We provide you with a clean batch of diapers each week.  Directly to your door.  For a flat weekly price.

  2. Diapers are delivered in a water resistant hamper bag that can be used to line your diaper pail.

  3. Once dirty, shake any solids into the toilet* and just toss the diaper into the hamper bag.

  4. At the end of the week, we send an email reminding you to put your dirties out for pick up.

  5. Then the driver swings by with a clean batch of the exact diapers we picked up from the previous week.

*until a baby begins eating solids, poopy diapers can be tossed into the hamper bag just the same as pee-pee diapers.  However, any time that the poopy is solid (starting around 6-9 months and becoming consistently so between 11-15 months), it’s important that you plunk the solid bits into the toilet before tossing the diaper into the hamper.   Don’t let this scare you.  It’s really pretty simple - and is something you should be doing with disposables as well.  The big bonus:  a low-odor diaper pail!

How does Delivery work?

We deliver between 10p-4a once per week* and, because we are continually adjusting our schedule for the arrival of new babies, can’t commit to a regular time slot.  Therefore we ask for a safe spot within your gate, inside your vestibule, with your doorman, or right in front of your apartment door.  Any spot that requires a building key, we send you a “Key Kit” in which you can send it to us.  Heads up:  given that the bulk of deliveries will be in the wee hours and we need to move quickly, we’re afraid that having you buzz us in each week isn’t an option.  We do, though, gladly carry the diapers to whatever floor you’re on and can make the exchange right in front of your door!

  1. *We are in Manhattan and Riverdale on Monday nights, in Lower Brooklyn (south of Flatbush) on Tuesday nights and Upper Brooklyn (north of Flatbush) and Queens on Wednesday nights.

How does Pre Sign-Up, Sign-Up and Billing work?

  1. Simply go to the Order page, click “View Details” and then “Order Service”

  2. After clicking the “Order Service” button, you’ll be directed to a secure server and asked to fill out all of your Information along with being prompted to “Enter Baby’s Due Date or Actual Birth Date” We will arrange to deliver approximately one week in advance of your due date.  Or, as soon as possible if your baby is already here.

  3. It can take up to two weeks to prepare your diapers for you.  So, please order at least 2 weeks out.

  4. After ordering, we will email you to confirm delivery date and details.

  5. The first week of Service and Accessories will be charged upon delivery.

  6. Then, just let us know when your baby has arrived and we’ll confirm your first pick-up/exchange date.

  7. We allow a 4 week grace period to accommodate late babies and slow starts.

  8. Billing kicks in either when we pick-up your diapers for the first time or after the 4 week grace period; whichever occurs soonest.  Billing then re-occurs each week that there is either a pick-up or a drop-off.

  9. We accept all major credit and debit cards.

  10. Just email us if you’d like to cancel;  aside from billing for that final pick-up week, there are no penalties.

How many diapers am I provided and how much does it cost?

For $35/week, we deliver you the following number of clean diapers:

  1. Twee (Preemie) are provided with 180 diapers rotated over 2 weeks, so roughly 90 per week.

  2. Small (Newborn) are provided with 160 diaper rotated over 2 weeks, so roughly 80 per week.

  3. Medium are provided with 120 diapers rotated over 2 weeks, so roughly 60 per week.

  4. Large are provided with 100 diapers rotated over 2 weeks, so roughly 50 per week.

After delivering your full rotation of diapers over 2 weeks (half each week), we then return to you the exact number of diapers that we picked up from the week before.

  1. So, if we pick up 79 diapers, then we’ll return just those 79 diapers the following week.

  2. If you turn in only 25 diapers, then we’ll return just those 25 diapers the following week.

What if I need more diapers than that?

If you find that you’re running short, we can increase your rotation in increments of 20; the first 20 for no extra charge.  Each additional 20 prefolds after that is an extra $2.50/week.

Will I get the same diapers back each week?

Yes.  We actually assign your diapers a number - say, #121.  We will return those same #121s to you each and every week.

Who supplies the Diaper Covers?

We ask that families purchase and maintain their own diaper covers.  They can be purchased from us - we carry Bummis or Imse Vimse - or from any source you wish.  If purchased from us, we supply care instructions with delivery.

Why are diaper covers not part of the service?  Unfortunately the temperatures we use in our washers and dryers break down a cover’s water resistance pretty quickly.  So it’s not a service that we can provide.

What is your Wash Process?

•Our wash process uses minimal chemistry at extremely high temperatures in commercial washers-extractors.

•Our washers go through a 14 step soak, wash, sanitize and rinse cycle to ensure diapers are fully sanitized and that no soap or detergent residue remains that could irritate your baby’s skin.

•Every step of the way, your baby and our environment is the priority.

If cloth diapering is so easy, why isn’t everyone doing it?

  1. Those first few days and weeks with a new baby brings lots of adjusting.

  2. Throw cloth diapers in the mix - whcih can take from 1 day to 4 weeks to get the hang of - and it can seem daunting.

  3. But dive in.  Lots and lots of people master it with no problems whatsoever.

  4. The goal:  getting your fold and size figured out so that you have a dry, comfortable baby.

  5. After that, the biggest difference between cloth and disposables is having to rinse and wash covers.

  6. Oh.  And, yes, cloth diapers are bulkier than disposables.  The reason:  several layers of organic cotton vs. compact petro-derived “super absorbent polymers”.  An easy offset for the bulbous baby bottom is to size-up when buying baby pants and skirts.

What about the smell?

To combat any odor, we offer a Heavy Duty Diaper Pail that’s made especially for diaper services.  It locks odors in tight.  Truly... with an asterisk.  When you open the diaper pail, odor will escape.  Usually this is okay.  If it bothers you, however, check out our Bio-Liners or Fleece Liners as a cure-all way to eliminate the source.

Do you have special pricing for Twins / Multiples?

We certainly do.  Please call us at 718-425-0950 or email us at info@diaperkind.com so that we can walk you through it.

What happens when I go out of town?

•We can put your account on hold for any reason and for any length of time.  For vacations or holds that are longer than 2 weeks, we will ask to pick-up all of your diapers.

•But the most important thing is:  please give us a week’s notice so that we can pick up any dirties before you leave town.  You certainly don’t want dirty diapers sitting in your house for a few weeks.  And, sadly, they are often times permanently stained if they sit for longer than a week.

•Also, we’re totally okay with you bringing some of your diapers with you while away.  Just let us know and we’ll share some washing tips.  (if you’d like to do this for longer than 2 weeks, we’ll generally pick up all of your diapers and, instead, provide you with a Travel Set, plus assess a fair “rental” fee.)

What happens if I forget to leave my diapers out for pick-up?

•We send reminder emails the morning that you’re meant to put your diapers out.  Be sure and check this email for your time slot.

•Even so, we know you have more pressing things on your mind, so if you forget...

•On the 1st occurrence, we’ll still drop-off your new set of diapers

•On the 2nd consecutive occurrence, we will not drop off a new set and instead will wait to hear from you to make future arrangements.

•Upon your 3rd occurrence, consecutive or separate, we will review and consider retiring your account.

•Eek.

What happens when my baby goes to Daycare?

Contrary to common belief, the Department of Health does not prohibit the use of cloth diapers in Daycare Centers.  We have been in contact with the DoH’s Bureau of Childcare division and have literature from them that explains the daycare-cloth guidelines.  We have also reached out to several daycare centers in Manhattan and Brooklyn and have a running list of those who are cloth-friendly.  Please feel free to contact us when the time comes for this transition and we’ll be happy to help in any way that we can.
